Spirit & Sworded Wins International Accolades

Dust Storm at Colorado State Festival, July 11-14

July 2018 -- Maria Cheng's Spirit & Sworded Treks wins two awards at the international theatre festival of WorldFest 2018 in Venice FL!  The first is a "gag" award for "Outstanding Use of Garlic and Ginger to Make a Pungent Point" - yes the Barbie doll chop-chop scene for which Maria had to triple the spice amount because it was performed in a 500 seat house. The back rows and balcony yelled out, "Yes we can smell it!"

The second award was for "Outstanding Theatrical Life Journey" - gobs of people expressed how much they laughed and cried and was moved by the work.

The Sarasota Herald Tribune lauded, "Maria Cheng, of Theatre Esprit Asia, is actually her own international production...tells a smart, funny and poignant version of her life that ends with an unexpected but welcome punch to the gut...deft comic timing and touching movement...powerful scene about the tradition of foot binding that leads to a shocking and impactful finale about how Asian woman look at themselves and try to change their appearance. Cheng knows how to engage an audience and hold its attention."

And TEA also got an invite to perform at the Fort Worth Fringe Festival!

Now on to the Colorado State Festival in Salida CO, July 11-14, with Dust Storm. What a way to finish TEA's fifth Anniversary Season!
